Quartz with Sphalerite specimen
This Specimen was collected by Frances Villemagne of Chesterfield who ran the rock shop “Frances Stones”.

Sphalerite crystals (of the “ruby zinc” variety) have been found to occur as inclusions in quartz crystals at Chestnut Ridge. To the present three individual crystals and one twinned crystal have been found. Identification of the inclusions was by microscopic methods at the Smithsonian Institution (Frances Villemagne, personal communication).from “MINERALS of Virginia, 1990 R. V. Dietrich“
