Hematite (iridescent stalactites) from Peters Mountain, Alleghany County, Virginia From collection of R.E. Houff (collected prior 80’s) Large (73 LBs) stalactitic formation of hematite with coating of iridescent hematite variety turgite. The turgite forms beautiful rainbow colors from violet to green and blue. Where the coating has flaked away, brilliant hematite is visible beneath.
